Wallace Wurth Medical Research Building UNSW Kensington
The original five storey Wallace Wurth Building was completed in 1964 and scheduled for major refurbishment in 2012. The opportunity to replace the facade to the occupied medical research building prior to commencing the main fit out contract would help accelerate the future fit-out programme. Busy laboratory research work prevented internal access and the conventional internal floor crane installation of a panelized curtain wall. The new facade had to be installed working totally from the outside of the building. Working closely with the Builder and Taylor Thomson Whiting consultants, the contract was carried out in two phases with a different facade treatment to each elevation. A large frameless glass entry foyer divided the two systems. We were responsible for the total stand-alone facade refurbishment contract which included: All access fixed scaffolding and material hoist. Repair of the concrete cancer to the exposed concrete frame.Supply and installation of new structural steel framing. Supply and installation of the new aluminium framed facade consisting of double glazed units and insulated Alpolic cladding panels. Supply and installation of the large sunshade louvres.
